Well of course, that totally depends – many people are able to hold a video camera “steady” and to make it look natural, while many of us are not. Here’s a sample of bad video and when to use a tripod.

Now, not everyone obviously is going to have or even use a tripod all the time. Sometimes, you want the hand held look (think JJ Abrams and “Star Trek”) – but sometimes you also need to use a firm platform like a tripod.
